In short

Booma is a language-learning app for children. It has no accounts, no ads, no analytics or tracking, and it does not send your child's data to us or to anyone else.

The only exception is an optional feature that is OFF by default and can only be enabled by a parent: "Speech recognition" (explained below).

What is stored, and where

Stored only on your device: a short name or nickname for the child (we recommend not using the full name), whether the child is a boy or a girl (to address them correctly in Arabic), the chosen avatar, the language being learned, learning progress (lessons, stars, words, stickers) and settings.

We do not collect age, location, photos, contacts, device identifiers or advertising IDs.

Your device's operating system may include the app's data in device backups (Google or iCloud) if backups are enabled in your device settings.

Microphone and the "Repeat after me" exercise

The microphone is used only in the "Repeat after me" exercise, after the child taps the record button, so the child can hear their own pronunciation and compare it with the model.

The recording is a temporary file on the device. It is deleted at the next recording and when leaving the exercise; anything left after an unexpected close is deleted when the app starts. It is never uploaded or shared.

Speech recognition (optional, OFF by default)

If a parent turns it on in the parent area, the app converts the child's speech to text with the device's built-in speech recognition service (Google on Android, Apple on iOS), so it can show which words were pronounced clearly.

We request on-device recognition first; if it is not available for that language on your device, the audio is sent to the provider's servers, under the Google or Apple privacy policy. The app itself stores neither the audio nor the text.

It can be turned off at any time; without it the exercise uses local recording and self-comparison.

Language downloads

Some languages download their audio the first time they are selected, from a file server (Cloudflare), and then work offline. The request is anonymous: no child name or data is sent; the server only sees the device's IP address, like any internet download.

Ads, purchases and links

This version contains no ads, no in-app purchases, no links that take the child to the internet, and no chat with other people.

Deleting data

In the parent area, delete a child profile or tap "Delete all data". Uninstalling the app also deletes all of its data from the device. We keep no copy, so there is nothing for us to delete.

Children and parents

The app is designed for children aged 6–12 under parental supervision. Important settings (parent area, unlocking levels, speech recognition) are behind a parent question.
